Fireside Old-Fashioned
This drink is a holiday-themed adaptation of Shannon Tebay’s Arrowhead, a cozy Old-Fashioned riff that’s built on a sturdy base of whiskey and pine-scented Douglas Fir eau-de-vie and accented with pear liqueur and maple syrup. It’s the liquid embodiment of walking through a coniferous forest on a snowy evening, and the kind of Old-Fashioned you can batch for a holiday party or make one at a time when the house finally goes quiet.
Fireside Old-Fashioned
1½ ounces Macallan 12-year sherry cask single-malt scotch
½ ounce Clear Creek Douglas Fir eau-de-vie
1 teaspoon Mathilde poire liqueur
½ teaspoon Laphroaig single-malt scotch
1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Garnish: 1 peppermint candy ribbon
Stir all the ingredients with ice, then strain into a double old-fashioned glass over 1 large ice cube. Garnish with the candy.
