Cosmopolitan
The Cosmopolitan is more than just a rose-colored relic of 1990s cocktail culture—it’s a finely balanced daisy that deserves its place in the modern canon. Made with citrus vodka, orange liqueur, lime, and cranberry juice, it’s crisp and refreshing with a tart edge and just enough sweetness to round it out. While its exact origins are debated, the best-known version was popularized in the late 1980s in New York City by our friend Toby Cecchini (who also wrote the foreword to our first cocktail book). The Cosmopolitan’s signature splash of cranberry gives it both color and character, making it the perfect bridge between seasons: bright enough for warm-weather sipping, with a fruity depth that hints at fall. Few cocktails feel more fitting to toast the change of seasons and to wind up the end of our Summer Classics Series.
