Sky Ladder

A bamboo is one of the great low-ABV templates, and Sky Ladder is Sam Johnson's warm-weather take on it. Manzanilla sherry and a split of Dolin dry and blanc vermouths form a crisp, saline base, while a teaspoon of Kalani coconut liqueur and a half-teaspoon of yuzu add richness and a bright citrus grip. It's delicate, savory, and endlessly sippable—"a great hot-weather, low-ABV sipper," in Sam's words. When you want all the elegance of a martini at a fraction of the proof, this is the pour.

1½ ounces Lustau manzanilla sherry
¾ ounce Dolin dry vermouth
¾ ounce Dolin blanc vermouth
1 teaspoon Kalani coconut liqueur
½ teaspoon yuzu juice
1 teaspoon simple syrup
Garnish: 1 grapefruit twist

Stir all the ingredients with ice, then strain into a chilled single old-fashioned glass. Express the grapefruit peel over the drink and discard.
