Death & Co’s Classic Spec

Ti' Punch

The Ti’ Punch is a minimalist’s summer cocktail—more of a ritual than a recipe. Built in the glass and stirred with a lazy hand, it’s the warm-weather cousin of the Old-Fashioned, reframed through the lens of rhum agricole. In Martinique, it’s often served neat and knocked back quickly, but we prefer it over cracked ice, giving the drink room to open up and evolve. The lime coin—with a bit of juicy flesh attached—acts as both seasoning and acid, balancing the grassy, high-toned funk of the rum. It’s bright, unapologetic, and exactly what you want when the heat sets in.

1½-inch-thick disk of lime peel with some flesh attached
1 teaspoon Cane Sugar Syrup (see Note)
2 ounces La Favorite Couer de Canne rhum agricole blanc

In an old-fashioned glass, muddle the lime and syrup. Add the rum, fill the glass with cracked ice, and stir briefly. No garnish.

Note: To make Cane Sugar Syrup, combine 2 parts unbleached cane sugar with 1 part water in a blender and blend until the sugar has dissolved.
